Spoken word

  This is a spoken word poem recited by two people in a competition in Texas. I chose it because I felt it was the perfect example of a spoken word poem, it is interesting as well as real things the people reciting it as well as many others have to face. Also by the end of the poem you come out with a different outlook than you may have had before. 

Dancing through the Decades

   I think Taylor Swifts music video for her new single "Shake it Off' " was a fun portrayal of different dance styles as time progressed up to today. Also it seems that Taylor had much fun participating. The video explores everything from ribbon dancing to hip hop all set to the tune of this catchy new song. It almost makes you want to get up and dance yourself!

The Little Mermaid

   The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite Disney movies. One of the main reasons I think i fell in love with the movie so much is the score, songs ranging from "Part of Your World" to "Kiss the girl" all of them tunes to get stuck in your head and go amazingly well with the plot, one we can all understand. Ariel wanted something that was just out of her reach but unlike most and just settling with her situation she went and got what she wanted by any means necessary and although this is not always the best decision, its still a nice film to sit back and enjoy. 

The Lottery

   This is a short story I remember reading in high school and it's one I think everyone should read especially young people since they will soon be the thinkers and doers in the world. The entire time one reads this story about a small town and the lottery they hold annually you can sense that something is very, very off and by the end it all comes together and while shocking and slightly unnerving it's something that should be always in the back of everyone's mind.  We should not go along with something just because it is the way things have always been done as they do in the village in the story. This story is a good reminder to question tradition and going along with the crowd for fear that we may very well be participating in a modern day lottery.

A Love Song for This Generation

This post for me was extremely hard to make because music is my entire life so to narrow it down to just one song was extremely difficult. In the end though I decided to pick a song that has been stuck in my head for quite a while now, and since it's one of my favorites I am not complaining one bit. The song is called Disconnected and it's by an up and coming Australian pop punk band named 5 Seconds of Summer with the youngest being 18 and the oldest being 20. I like the band because the guitar riffs and drum beats are always infectious but this song in particular has a nice chill beat with a drum heavy enough to bop to but guitars and bass melodic enough to not make the song a chant. Add in lyrics about taking a step back from technology and being with the one you love, a message oh so timely for our generation, and you have a perfect song on your hands in my opinion. 

House Hafner

This is the House Hafner built by Hornung and Jacobi and are located in Southern Germany. I find the cantilever design of the house very strange as it sort of plays an optical illusion seeming to defy gravity. Strangely though this design works, with the serene natural green forest like background it is surprising that the sterile white of the house does not turn one off from the scene. In a way the stark white flows along with the natural green landscape not creating something harsh on ones eyes and although the house is obviously new construction it looks to be organic along with the land. 

Balloons are buttons

I love the way Augusto Esquivel used composition as his method of execution via sewing buttons to create the sculpture mimicking floating balloons. It makes me feel happy because it brings back the elated feelings balloons always brought me as a child but with the added new appreciation of the time it took to create such a piece as well as the creativity on the artists part to think up such an awesome creation.The artist says, “I am often obsessed with comparisons of reality and potential and the balance between them, in art: the idea of chaos in perfect order: an object seemingly solid to the eye can also be fragile and inconsistent to the touch; a common object used to create a piece of art becomes transformed into something complicated and intriguing.” I believe he did a great job of expressing himself because this is exactly what I got from the piece as well.
